Who Are WE?
Precious Portuguese water dogs are a well-known breeder in the USA. We have been involved with breeding animals since 2004 when what started as an accidental pet pregnancy turned into a fulfilling and life-changing enterprise. Our main priority is ensuring the health and well-being of all our puppies from birth until they leave with their forever family and beyond.
Precious Portuguese water dogs is Susan, Stephanie, and Thompson. I Susan have been breeding ever since I was young , I love my animals and couldn’t live without them. I have a smallholding where I also have a rescue pony, sheep, and Geese. My animals come first before anything, they are the first to eat and the last to go without. My daughter and son Thompson runs the kennels with me and grandson Bradley helps with all the animals. Both have been brought up around animals and both couldn’t imagine a life without them.

About This Breed
The Portuguese Water Dog is super-smart and very ‘biddable’, meaning he’s easy to train and eager to please. The Portie can be groomed in two styles: The retriever clip (the entire coat is clipped to one inch in length, with the tail tip at full length) or the more check-me-out lion clip, where the coat is on the hindquarters and muzzle is clipped down to the skin.

There are two clips or cuts that are considered acceptable on a Portuguese water dog; The Lion clip(with a shorn rear) and the working clip(with all hair left intact)
Sixteen people met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Milner who had received the bread in a rare bread trade, in order to form the Portuguese water dog club of America. The bread became an AKC breed in January 1984
